Could There Be Anything Cuter?

On Friday evening, Ella's school hosted a Valentine's Dance for the preschoolers through the fourth graders. The girls were abuzz with excitement all day long; Sadie was telling *everyone* that she was going to a dance. And Ella had endless fun teasing Sadie by telling her that she was too little to go to the dance. To which Sadie burst into tears, causing Ella to amend her statement to Sadie being allowed to GO to the dance but not being allowed to actually DANCE at the dance. Aren't big sisters the greatest?

The dance was quite an event: great food courtesy of our neighborhood Italian eatery, a DJ, dancing, face painting, games, and a balloon drop. The kids had a blast. Ella's little boyfriend M was there (to her complete delight) along with some of her male classmates (Ella was the only girl from her class to attend). Their teacher arrived later in the evening, and you'd have thought she was a rock star the way the kids flocked to her. It was pretty cute. The girls pretty much had a blast just running around the gym. Eventually Sadie had a bit of a meltdown, saying she was sleepy. So Dean took her home while Ella continued to party her little heart out.

At one point, M did something that made Ella decide he didn't like her. And man--these guys are way TOO young for what ensued. Ella did the standard "burst into tears" drama girl thing while M walked away and proceeded to ignore her every time she tried to get his attention. It was like something out of high school. Or, at the very least, something I'd expect from a boy and girl who were WAY older than three and four. I am SO not prepared for this kind of drama at the preschool level. In the end though, they made up. I actually don't think M was ever really mad at Ella; she is just way sensitive. Ah, the joy of being a mom to girls. Although, I have to predict that Sadie will be pretty level-headed about the opposite sex....

In any case, my princesses had a blast at the ball!

Here I told them to kiss. This was the reaction.
