In Which the Girls Discover They Like Nature After All

We didn't do anything much this weekend, butsometimes not doing much of anything is the perfect speed for a holiday weekend. I ran 16 miles on Friday (yes, 16 miles!), and Dean decided he and the girls would meet me at a local nature preserve to bring me water and food. It was a nice way to break up my run, since for the first 10 or so miles, I was actually running TO something. It actually ended up being more like 11 miles (which tends to be frustrating when you are running and expecting a certain thing to happen at a certain mile), but it was fun to see the girls and have them act as "support" crew for my run. Moe was there too, but it turns out that he hates nature, and he really didn't offer much in the way of support. As a nice accidental byproduct, the girls had a great time playing in the woods and declared that they actually do like nature after all (previous attempts to hike always ended with a lot of whining about having to do quite so much walking). And so, we spent quite a bit of time in nature this weekend. On Saturday (a rest day for me, thankfully), we went back to the nature preserve, and the girls spent quite a bit of time walking up/down fallen logs, throwing stuff into the lake, and generally making a muddy mess of themselves. Monday, we headed to a different nature center--with a completely different result. This nature was apparently boring and icky, and thus, the love affair with nature ended just as quickly as it started. It appears that there are several different "brands" of nature. Some are fun, and some are not. It's really hard to say on top of all of this. In any case, here are some photos from nature for your enjoyment.
